ABU SIMBEL
Abu Simbel is a complex of two temples excavated in laroca, one dedicated to Ramses II and another to Nefertari, his first wife and supredilecta. The construction of the temples took about 20 years to conclude and was carried out in the reign of Ramses II (1279-1213 a.C). Buried in sand for centuries, the temples were partially excavated in 1813 by the Swiss explorer Burkhard. Later, in 1817, the Italian Giovanni Battista Belzoni discovered the rest. In order to prevent them from disappearing under water by building the Aswan Dam, the temples of Abu Simbel were relocated between 1964 and 1968. With engineers and international funds, for 4 years and for 36 million dollars, they were dismantled and rebuilt in a place 65 meters higher. By the aid received, Egypt donated important treasures and temples to other countries, such as the Temple of Debod in Madrid
